About
Perwen Farm is a small, family run, arable farm in West Dorset, about three miles in from the (Jurassic) coast, bounded on two sides by Iron Age hill forts (Eggardon and Shipton).
In 2012 we bought four bulbs of surprisingly large garlic at a market in northern France, for what seemed at the time a somewhat exorbitant price. That autumn we planted about 30 cloves, and in July the following year harvested the most impressive looking heads of garlic ever grown on the farm. The garlic we sell now is all descended from those first four bulbs.
There was no specific name attached to the garlic when we bought it at the French market. We know that it is a Softneck, and of the Artichoke variety, but that is all. However, we call it (for what we anticipate will become obvious reasons) “Super Garlic”.
We accept that there is a very faint whiff of Jack and the Beanstalk about this story – but that was the way it was
