Growing
“The first year I grew Perwen Garlic I did so alongside a variety of different types of garlic from a number of well-known suppliers. Perwen Garlic easily out-performed the others. I would not hesitate to recommend it.”
Kate Hubbard, author and gardener
“By far the most reliable and impressive garlic I have ever grown””
Elizabeth Valera, lawyer and gardener

When to plant?
We aim to plant around Guy Fawkes night. Two weeks on either side is the optimum window.
It is possible to plant in early spring, but the results are unlikely to be as good.

When to plant?
Ideally, a month or so before the Super Garlic. The second half of September.
Tips – for both
As long as the soil is free draining and in full(ish) sun, both should grow well. Fertiliser isn’t really necessary, unless your soil is depleted in some way, although we use small quantities of chicken pellets on ours.
One thing garlic does not like is competition, so the plants should be kept as weed free as possible. Hoeing will do the trick on a small bed, but we grow ours through a woven membrane, which keeps weeds to a minimum without the use of chemicals or much effort.
